8 Interesting Facts About Carbon Fiber

We all love carbon fiber and the amazing things which can be made from it, but how much do you really know about the material? Take a look at these eight fascinating carbon fiber facts.

  • Carbon is all around us, but most raw carbon fiber is from Asia

Each and every one of us is made of carbon, and the element is one of the most abundant on the planet. However, raw carbon fiber is mainly produced in the continent of Asia. This raw material is known as Polyacrylanitrile fiber, or PAN, and is heated to enormous temperatures to create the fibers themselves.

  • The term 'carbon fiber' can mean many different things

A key carbon fiber fact is that it comes in many different forms. Carbon fiber is produced in sheets, clumps of raw fibers, in short fiber lengths, or in long fiber lengths.

  • Not all carbon fibers are equal, and certain standards must be met

The carbon fiber we take for granted is actually held to an extremely high standard. Standard, Intermediate, High, and Ultra High Modulus levels give users an indication of quality. Whether you are searching for an iPhone case or a carbon fiber wallet, you want to know that you are connecting with the best -- you can be assured of this when you select a product from the Pur Carbon range.

  • Carbon fiber is something of a dream material

One of the most fun facts about carbon fiber relates to how easy it is to work with. It is firmer and stronger than many other materials, and yet also lighter. This makes it a dream material for engineers and manufacturers.

  • Carbon fiber weaves are mainly cosmetic

The carbon fiber weave that so many of us enjoy does serve a purpose and provides limited protection against scratches and other superficial damage. However, it is mainly used for a cosmetic effect...and a very nice one at that.

  • Manufacturing is a hands-on process

Many of us might consider carbon fiber to be a futuristic material, processed entirely by machines and on robotic production lines. However, a great deal of hands-on work goes into production. Of course, there are automated phases in the process, but a serious amount of human labor is also involved, which will make you appreciate that gorgeous shoulder bag all the more.

  • Carbon fiber damage can be repaired

Don't believe anyone who tells you that carbon fiber is irreparable if it becomes damaged. This is simply not the case. Depending on the extent of the damage and on the type of carbon fiber involved, repairs can be made which retain the look, finish, and tensile strength of the material.

  • There are fake carbon fibers out there

The last of our interesting facts about carbon fiber is less fun, and is, in fact, a little scary - carbon fiber can be, and is... faked! This fake carbon fiber looks almost as good as the real thing but lacks the strength of the genuine material. Make sure you always work with a reputable producer or vendor to ensure that your product is the real thing.

These iPhone 11 Pro Max cases are some of the best on the market if not the best. The only complaint that I have is that the clear coat finish scratches too easily.
